Stop Starving: Eating Disorder Myths and Tips Disproven

WEEK FOUR:
Photoshop and Thinspiration

1% of the world's population actually resembles the body shape of a model.
The rest of the population, has a natural shape. The media now has the technology to alter all celebrities into this 1% category through Photoshop. View the picture above. Most pictures in magazines will be altered; thinning of the thigh, neck, and waist is common. In addition, plumping of the chest and color contouring help highlight areas that need to "pop".

Message: it is NOT possible to get a shape like the one seen above because these images are created not born.

Thinspiration; using the images of extremely skinny individuals to lose weight, can lead only to failure because the goal is unattainable and unrealistic. This can lead to frustration and actually cause additional damage instead of being a helpful tool, as many people battling eating disorders assume.

A good example of what can happen when the body is depleted of fuel and nutrients is DEATH.  Once a person is as emaciated as in the photo above, it looks nothing like the thinspiration pictures they envision.
Dove has great positive body image material to share with any loved ones who may have an eating disorder.
