Stop Starving: Eating Disorder Myths and Tips disproven

WEEK ONE:
What's the big deal with eating disorder websites??

Although some sites state they provide support and therapy to those in need; MANY sites are created for those battling eating disorders to share dangerous practices of weight loss, suppressing hunger, and hiding the disease.

Pro-ana is the promotion of anorexia and restriction of calories.

Pro-mia can be defined as a promotion of bulimia: the binging and purging of calories.

Thinspiration is an imaging tool used to motivate viewers to get to their ideal body weight.

The dangerous "tips" on these websites are inappropriate at best and deadly at worst. We do not want to share these damaging ideas, but want to continue to advocate against these sites that harm individuals and feed into their eating disorder. There is statistical evidence that this is not a form of treatment for an ED; those who need help must seek it in a different capacity.

Our weekly posts are intended to create awareness of Eating Disorders. Those living with this disease need support. We will provide researched evidence against many "tips" found on the internet.

Every Wednesday: Eating Disorder Awareness
Next Week: Body Cleanses and Fasting
