Talking about disordered eating can be difficult and frightening. It should never be confronted alone. Look to a close friend or family member for support. Use the three E's of expression and other coping methods for guidance to recovery and a healthy lifestyle.
1. Establish a safe environment: When you're ready to talk, go to a comfortable and private location. Choose to speak with someone that you can express your feelings and concerns openly.
2. Explain the situation: Be patient when confiding in someone close to you. They may not fully understand the situation, but working together in understanding a solution is always a great thing. Expressing your thoughts and feelings about your situation may help you recognize your inner relation with eating and self-esteem.
3. Educate with the facts: Educate your confidant on eating disorders and how to support someone struggling with an eating disorder.
You are a good person. There are people in your life that will support you in your journey to get well.
