
However, more recently, it has been brought to our attention that the chemical make-up of these fats in coconut oil is different than other saturated fats such as butter. The issue is that the research surrounding coconut oil and its health benefits is in its infancy and results have not been consistent thus far. Some studies show that it increases your good cholesterol but also your bad cholesterol too.
The truth is there are many factors that contribute to elevated cholesterol levels other than food such as: weight, exercise, stress, smoking and genetics. Until more human clinical trials are put into place that result in positive and consistent outcomes, its best to stick with oils that are a sure bet to have positive effects on heart health such as olive oil and canola oil.
